Q1. Is a mountain bike OK to use
in the bike leg?
Yes definitely. In fact we expect the majority of the
bikes out on course to be hybrids or mountain bikes. Feel
free to use any two wheeled machine as long as it has two
wheels and is safe to ride. Mountain bikes, hybrids,
old racing bikes are most welcome.
Q2. Is there events for my young
children?
Triathlon Pink caters for all females from the age of 7 – 700. Triathlon
Pink race distances provide everyone with an opportunity
to achieve. Our kids race distances vary with the
compulsory 7- 9 year old distance of 50m swim/1.5km ride/600m
run whilst the older children can choose from the 100m swim/3km
ride/1km run and 200m swim/6km ride/2km run distances. As
each distance athletes will be set off in their own age groups
the children will be on course with their own age groups.
Q3. What is the most common clothing
worn by entrants?
Anything that is cool and comfortable. You will have
transition from swim to ride to run and it is easier to have
a costume or swim outfit that is comfortable for all three
sports. Some athletes wear traditional triathlon gear,
whilst others wear a one piece costume and then put on a
singlet and shorts over their costume when in transition. One
thing is mandatory and that is that your body is fully covered
Q4. How do I set up my gear?
For at least one and a half hours before each race the transition
area will be open to “Pinkies” to set up their
gear. We will have assistants in this area to help
you out. You will have a rack assigned to you and
your bike where you can set up your riding and running
gear next to your bike. Please see attached photo
to see how to set up your gear. Alternatively t3
Events will be running transition training sessions (15minutes)
at scheduled times prior to race start for all athletes.
Q5. What time do you have to be
at the event to register your bike etc before the race?
Please check each individual event to see what time registration
opens and your race start. Give yourself plenty of
time as you need to register and then rack your bike. The
more time preparing means less time stressing if you are
in a rush so give yourself at least one hour. Our events
staff will be in transition waiting to help you with your
preparation.
Q6. Can I wear a wetsuit?
If the event is in pool such as Sydney Olympic Park, no you
cannot. If it is an open water Triathlon Pink race
and the water is below the legal limits yes you can. You
can also still choose to not wear a wetsuit.
Q7. How long is the race?
The race distances vary, providing athletes with choices
according to their fitness levels. Remember this
is all about finishing and achieving your goals so take
your time if you need to and enjoy your day out.
Q8. How much should I train?
That is dependant on your fitness levels. If you are
in doubt please see a qualified triathlon coach (see www.trinsw.org.au)
or a qualified fitness professional. High Performance
Tri have supplied a six week training program for all Triathlon
Pink athletes, which is available online.
Q9. What are the distances for Triathlon Pink:
There are a number of distances to choose from depending on your fitness level and what you want to achieve. The distances available include:
• Event 1 - 7- 9 years kids race: 50m swim/1.5km ride/500m run
• Event 2 - 100m swim/3km ride/1km run
• Event 3- 200m swim/6km ride/2km run
• Event 4 - 300m swim/9km ride/3km run
Q.10 What is a Relay Team?
A relay team is a group of 2 or 3 Pinkies that will complete the whole triathlon as a relay team. The first Pinkie may do the swim with the second Pinkie completing the ride and the third Pinkie completing the cycle. If 2 Pinkies are in the team one of the Pinkies will have to complete two of the parts e.g. one Pinkie swims and the second Pinkie rides and runs.
Q.11 What is a Team of 2, 3 or 5?
When you register as a team of 2, 3 or 5 you all register as individual completing the whole event eg swim, bike and run but you are guaranteed of having your bikes racked together and starting in the same wave. You can then choose to either race one another (in a fun way!!) or cruise around the course as a group.
