www.gotribalnow.com is An organization aimed at empowering women and promoting triathlon around the world.
GOTRIbal is an online community for female triathletes. global TRIbe helps makes sure that a sense of fear doesn’t stand in the way of one woman’s, or one girl’s, motivation to achieve her dreams. Once women GOTRIbal , they experience a personal transformation that empowers them – and challenges them - to rethink what is possible.
Ultimately, they are positively impacting themselves, their families, their countries, their world.
The beauty is in the model: our Pay It Forward process. It’s simple. As a more experienced triathlete you were given the gift of someone’s belief in you; you trained, you raced, you accomplished. Now you pay that gift forward.
KOKODA CHICKS 2009
Walking the Kokoda Track is one of the most amazing things you will ever do. It is a huge challenge and one which is so rewarding. Combining that with raising money for a cause that affects so many people, makes the trek all the more special.
Kokoda Chicks commenced in 2007 when event organizer Viona wanted to walk the Track for a number of years after listening to her grandpa's stories about WWII in PNG. She felt that she needed to do it for a cause that is very close to her heart, having lost both her mother and grandmother to breast cancer, raising money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation was a natural choice. Viona found 11 other women to join her and called the group the 'Kokoda Chicks'. As is the case with both of this year's treks, each trekker had the goal of raising a minimum of $5000 each and in that first year, they raised around $105,000. In 2008, another group of Kokoda Chicks joined up and they managed to raise over $140,000. Amazing for 12 women!
For the first time, Viona is organising a mixed group of trekkers who will walk the Track as Kokoda Mixed in September. Each will have a fundraising target of $5000 or can choose to donate this amount instead.
