DISTANCES
How long will it take to complete the events triathlon?
The long course triathlon is a 300m swim followed by a 9km ride followed by a 3km run. In the 2008 event in Sydney the fastest Pinkie finished in 34 minutes and the slowest Pinkie completed the course in 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The medium course triathlon is a 200m swim followed by a 6km ride followed by a 2km run. In the 2008 event in Sydney the fastest Pinkie finished in 22 minutes and the slowest Pinkie completed the course in 57 minutes.
The short course triathlon is a 100m swim followed by a 3km ride followed by a 1km run. In the 2008 event in Sydney the fastest Pinkie finished in 14 minutes and the slowest Pinkie completed the course in 24 minutes.
The kids triathlon is a 50m swim followed by a 1.5km ride followed by a 500m run. In the 2008 event in Sydney the fastest Pinkie finished in 6 minutes and the slowest Pinkie completed the course in 22 minutes.
Triathlon Pink Hobart is a little bit different to the other events in that it is an open water swim. Due to this fact we have elected to also run a duathlon as part of the event which is a run/ride/run. So if you don’t want to get wet and cold there is an event for you. The distances of the duathlon are:
Long course Duathlon:
Medium course Duathlon:
Short course Duathlon:
Kids Duathlon: |
1km run/9km ride/3km run
500m run/6km ride/2km run
500m run/3km ride/1km run
250m run/1.5km ride/500m run |
The important thing is that everyone finishes and has a great day.

EVENT CHARITY
Who is the event charity?
The National Breast Cancer Foundation is the official event charity. 10% of all profits from the series go directly to the NBCF. For a contact at the NBCF please email us at info@triathlonpink.com.au and we will put you in contact with the NBCF who will, in turn, send you a receipt book. RELAY TEAMS
What is a relay team?
A relay team is a group of 2 or 3 Pinkies that will complete the whole triathlon as a relay team. The first Pinkie may do the swim with the second Pinkie completing the ride and the third Pinkie completing the cycle. If 2 Pinkies are in the team one of the Pinkies will have to complete two of the parts e.g. one Pinkie swims and the second Pinkie rides and runs.
How do I enter a relay team?
One member of your team simply clicks on the ENTER NOW icon at www.triathlonpink.com.au and fills in an entry form for the whole team. There is no need for any other member to be a part of the process.
How do we know that we are all entered?
The Pinkie that enters the team will be listed on the confirmed entrants listing. The other team members will not be on the list. If the Pinkie who entered is on the list then the team is entered.
Do we register on event day together?
Yes you all need to show up to the registration desk together where you will be registered as a team.
You will only receive one timing chip which should be on the swimmers left ankle at the start of the event.
How do we set up on event day?
You may all enter transition together on event morning. Your bike rider needs to set up transition as per normal. The bike is where all your team members will meet during the event to tag in their partners and hand over the timing chip
How do we change over during the event?
When the swimmer has completed her swim she will exit the pool and run to the transition where the bike rider will be standing beside the team bike. The swimmer will then meet with the bike rider, take off the timing chip which will be placed around the left ankle of the bike rider. Once this is done the bike rider can exit the transition for her bike ride. At the end of the bike ride the rider will run into transition rack her bike at the same spot where the runner will be waiting. The bike rider will then take the timing chip off and place it around the runners left ankle. The runner can then exit transition on the way to the finish
Can we finish together?
Yes you can wait for your runner about 100 metres from the finish line and join her for the run to the finish. You can then all receive your Triathlon Pink finishers medal

GROUPS
What is a group?
A group is a group of 2+ friends, family members, work friends who want to participate together. Being a part of a group ensures that you all rack your bikes next to one another, you start together in the same wave and can go through the whole course together if you wish to.

Are there any limits to the amount of Pinkies in a group?
There is no limit to group sizes although if the group gets beyond 10 people we will have to split your wave start up but you will follow one another.
How do I enter a group?
Your team organizer needs to go online to www.triathlonpink.com.au and click on the ENTER NOW button. They then need to register the group. Remember to give the group a name. Once the group is registered each individual can then go online and enter the same event (e.g. long course, medium course, short course or kids event) and in the process elect to be a part of the particular group.
You can then all complete the whole course together.
Can our group do different distances?
No. To ensure you are all together you need to agree to a distance that you all want to achieve.
Can our group change the distance that we have originally picked?
Yes you can but you must email info@triathlonpink.com.au to let us know so we can change it for you.

What time should I get to event site on event morning?
Give yourself plenty of time to get ready. You will need to register and then pin your bib on your suit, take your bike into transition and get everything ready. To ensure a stress free time please give yourself at least one hour prior to your event start to get ready

Yes our courses are set up so that your supporters will be able to see you regularly. They can then cheer on their heroes as they swim/ride and run their way to the finish line

Medical service tents are located at the finish line to every event. If at any time you require medical assistance please seek out a volunteer or go straight to the medical tent.

You will receive your finishers medal as you cross the finish line. You will receive your athlete bag, t-shirt and other goodies at time of registering on event morning.

What roads will be closed?
All roads in a Triathlon Pink event are closed to traffic. Vehicles are not permitted to operate in the bike or run courses.
Do I get a trophy?
Every finisher gets a Triathlon Pink medal. There are two trophies that are randomly picked form all the Pinkies that participated on the day. This is to reflect that everyone is a winner on the day and everyone is a chance of representing the Pinkies that participated.
Will I be timed?
Yes every Pinkie will receive a timing chip when they register which wraps around your left ankle and records your swim, bike and run times. After the event we will post the results on the event website where you can view how you and your friends went.
Where can I find out my results?
Event results are posted online by Tuesday after event day on www.triathlonpink.com.au under the “Event Results” link
Who runs the event?
t3 Events is an event management company specialising in mass participation sporting events. The Triathlon Pink concept was devised by t3 Events after they noticed a distinct lack of opportunities for females at an entry level in the sport of triathlon. Triathlon Pink is all about Challenge, Participation and Fun and is every girls opportunity to shine.
What should I bring on event day?
Check out the event day checklist at (link to event day checklist). Make sure you check off all these things prior to event day and that you bring them with you.
How do I know if someone is a volunteer?
T3 Events volunteers all wear an orange t-shirt and an orange cap. They will assist you during the day so if you have any questions please find a volunteer and they will assist you with your issue

SWIM
Can I wear a wetsuit?
If the event is in pool such as Sydney Olympic Park, as most Triathlon Pink events are, no you cannot. If it is an open water Triathlon Pink race and the water is below the legal limits yes you can. You can also still choose to not wear a wetsuit.
Where do I go for my start?
Pinkies will be given an area in the pool centre to sit at. This is where you will receive your briefing and sit whilst waiting for your wave to start. Please be sure to listen to the announcer as he will explain the start procedure.

How many Pinkies per wave?
Waves consist of no more than 10 Pinkies making it very safe and easy to navigate. You will start at one corner together and when the whistle goes you will start your swim. If you are a bit unsure just let everyone go and then take off when you are ready to go.

How far apart are the wave starts?
Wave starts are 1 minute apart so you need to listen to the announcer on pool deck as he will call out your number when they are ready for you to start.
Do we go up and down the pool in the lanes?
No. There are small swim buoys in the pool that you swim around. They are placed at angles so you swim diagonally across the pool to each swim buoy to complete your laps. You will finish your swim at the corner of the pool across from where you started.

Can I wear/use kickboard, floaties, flippers or any buoyancy device?
You cannot use any type of flotation device or flippers as the device may impact on another athletes swim. The device may scratch or cut another competitor and we need to ensure everyone is safe on the day
Can I do any type of swimming stroke?
Yes you can…we encourage all strokes as long as they are safe and do not impede on any other Pinkie’s progress through the pool

How do I get out of the pool?
In Sydney we have a ramp for you to walk up. In the other events you simply hop up the steps onto the pool deck. There is always a volunteer at the steps should you need any help.

TRANSITION
Is there any special transition training?
Each event site will have a Triathlon Pink coach on site to conduct simple transition training sessions on the morning of the event.
What is transition?
Transition is the area where your bike will stay and where you keep your running gear. This is the central area of the event where you will go to after each stage of your event. You will have access to transition before event start so you can set your area up. You will set up at the point where your bib number is on your rack.

How do I setup transition?
After racking your bike you can place a towel beside your bike where you can put your clothing and shoes. Place your helmet on your bike for easy access.

Where can I leave my bag?
A bag compound will be located within every transition area. There you can leave your bag. This area is not secure although no one will be permitted to access the bags until the end of your event. Please ensure that you leave any valuables with relatives and/or at home as we cannot guarantee the security of any valuables.
Can I share my bike with another Pinkie?
No you cannot. Each Pinkie must have their own bike. This is to ensure that no bikes are stolen and there are not people in transition trying to change bikes whilst other Pinkies are trying to participate in their event
How do I find my bike in the transition area?
All bikes are racked according to bib numbers so just look for your rack line number and/or the number which is the same as your bib number.

When can I get my bike after I have finished?
As Triathlon Pink has different transition areas for each event you will be able to access your bike immediately after the last participant in your event has crossed the finish line
[back to top]
BIKE
What sort of bike can I use?
Amy type of bike is fine. The most used bikes are mountain bikes although others use racing bikes, some use hybrids. The most important thing is that your bike is safe and has working brakes on both the front and back wheels.
Do I have to wear a helmet?
Yes you are required to wear a helmet at all times whilst riding a bike. Please ensure that your helmet meets Australian standards and has a working strap.

Can I ride with training wheels?
Training wheels on bikes are permitted for the kids event.
Do I have to wear shoes whilst riding my bike?
